EDWARDS JOINS LILYWHITES ON LOAN

Bangor City have this evening announced that Sion Edwards has joined fellow Premier League side Rhyl on loan for the rest of the season.

Bangor City stalwart Sion Edwards has today joined Rhyl until the end of the Welsh Premier League season.

The winger who started his career at Vanarama National League side Wrexham, signed for the Citizens back in 2006, featuring for the club for over ten years. During his time at the club he has made 228 appearances for Bangor, scoring 80 goals in the process.

Speaking to the Rhyl FC official website, Edwards said there were other offers on the table but Rhyl were the team for him.

“I’m very happy to have signed a loan deal for Rhyl FC, it’s been a difficult decision and a strange last 24/48 hours with trying to make the right decision, as there were a couple of options for me. I feel I have made the right one, and with speaking to Niall over the past 24 hours it was clear to me that Rhyl was the right club.”

Only this season, Edwards rewarded for such loyalty over the years that he played a part in a testimonial match against the WPL Championship side of 2010/2011.

With eight appearances in Champions League and Europa League appearances for Bangor, he brings European pedigree to Bell Vue, along with his three time Welsh Cup winners medals.

Manager Niall McGuiness was delighted to secure a player of such calibre.

“He is a proven Dafabet Welsh Premier League player who has excellent experience and I think it will be massive for us moving into the split. He will bring in a work ethic that suits our philosophy at Rhyl Football Club as he is the type of player who gives 100% week in week out.”

Edwards looks set to make his debut in Rhyl’s away fixture at Llandudno on the 14th January.
