Something which may not happen again for some happened in the town of Cwmbran on Saturday, three Cwmbran first team sides ran out 6-4 winners all in three completely different divisions.
Cwmbran Celtic of the Welsh League Divison One ran out 6-4 winners against Caerau Ely at Celtic Park as they beat 5th placed Caerau Ely to move up to 9th in the table.
A hatrick from prolific striker Josh Bull, a brace from Niall Yeates and a single goal from Lloyd Kinsella was enough for the home side to secure all three points. A notable mention goes to Callum Wakeham who made his first start for Dean Morris’ men.
In the Welsh League Division Two, Croesyceiliog ran out 6-4 winners against Pontardawe Town, again at home where they play at Woodland Road. Croesyceiliog’s goal scorers came in the form of a Nick McGrath hatrick as well as a single goals from Will Lygo and Cam Fielden, as well as an own goal.
Perhaps one of the most dramatic victories out of the three came at the stadium that previously held European football. Cwmbran Stadium saw another 6-4 victory to the home side although it was 4-4 in the 90th minute.
Town took the lead through Owen Llewellyn after Aaron Palfrey played him through but just ten minutes later Newport Corinthians equalised. Owen Llewellyn then restored the Crows lead as he replicated hs first finish, but just before half time, Corinthians equalised through a direct free-kick.
As the game resumed after half time, it would not be until the hour mark that scoring would resume as Michael Dobbs would score with a fantastic finish to put Cwmbran back in the lead but just three minutes later, a defensive mixup allowed Corinthians to score with an an instant equaliser.
With the game already at 6 goals, the scoring died down until just before the 90th minute mark as Cwmbran Town were almost certain that Lee McCarthy’s header would be enough to secure all points but Corinthians again just a minute later would equalise.
Owen Llewellyn though would get back in on the scoring act as he secured his hatrick and was rewarded with the match ball after his far post header put the Crows into the lead. Just to put the game beyond doubt, provider turned scorer Aaron Palfrey would score from 12 yards to secure all three points and give Town a 6-4 victory.
With a total of thirty goals in Cwmbran yesterday and 18 going towards the Cwmbran based sides, it seems Torfaen went goal crazy yesterday.
