Bluebirds O’Sullivan praises committed squad

Joint Haverfordwest County manager Chris O’Sullivan has praised the togetherness of his squad following a summer clear out of players.

The Bluebirds boss believes that the work over the summer is the reason why they are playing like they are, picking up results in recent weeks after a few losses at the start of the season.

“We had a very busy recruiting period pre season and that continued into the season. It always takes time for a squad to gel and we were affected by that at first. We finally assembled a settled squad which we were both happy with, on top of that the lads we have work tirelessly for one another which is great to see them doing as a squad.

“We just feel the lads are all committed together as a group, they work hard and stick together very well, that bodes well especially away from home when sometimes you don’t get the rub of the green or you have to try and grind results out as there’s no easy away fixture in the Welsh League.”

O’Sullivan’s squad has reached the Welsh Football League semi-final and have drawn Division Three side Bridgend Street, he gave his thoughts on the draw.

“My initial thoughts before the draw and after the draw was that whoever it was going to be it will always be tough as we are sure all the remaining teams will be hungry to progress and make the final. Bridgend Street have already shown they are a very good outfit with getting this far and have beaten teams from our division in the likes of a very good Taffs Well.”

Haverfordwest County travel to Goytre United this evening with three points at stake as the Bluebirds look to bounce back from their relegation from the Welsh Premier League.

“We won’t be reading to much into Goytre Utds record at home as personally knowing Lee John, his team will be very well prepared for Friday and will be as always a very tough place to go.

We try not to look to much into stats past, present or what’s ahead, we just try to concentrate on each game as it comes and prepare in the best manner and frame of mind possible as a whole squad.”

In Haverfordwest’s last home match, they broke down a Monmouth defence that stood tall for 85 inutes before Rhys Dalling broke the deadlock.

“The goal came at a time when we were fairly dominant in the game and Rhys took his goal well, as we would expect from a player of his quality. The boys managed to see the last 10-15 mins out then by keeping their 5th clean sheet at home in the last 6 games and I think overall on the balance of play, we probably just about deserved the three points, although Monmouth did makes us work very hard for it.”
