A few months ago, Tredegar Town couldn’t buy a win but in recent weeks Tredegar have been in a bit of form, with manager Andrew Yorke a vital factor in why form has picked up.
“It was very important to try and firstly close the gap after only having 3points on the board, we have managed to drag a couple of teams into the equation and hopefully with another 3points on Saturday we will bring teams even closer to us.
It would be a massive achievement for the club after the awful start we had, I have a lot of people around me who I trust and a great bunch of lads all pushing in the right direction and hopefully that will keep us up.”
This weekend Tredegar travel to Treowen with both sides near the bottom, a win for either side could boost their chances of remaining in the Welsh League.
“We have done very well this last six weeks improving game by game. It’s an important game but it’s not the be all and end all. We are quite capable of staying up even if the result don’t go for us this weekend. We are capable of going on a run and winning most of our remaining games.”
Preparations for the game come with a few possible absentees but Yorke says that his side must begin to defend better as a unit if they are to get something from the game
“We have a few injuries and one suspension, however we have a big squad and they all need to play a part.
It’s important that we defend properly from the start and take our chances when they arrive, if we just stick to the basics and see where it takes us.”
Part of Tredegar’s revival is the form of forward Ian Petit who has been scoring regularly for Tredegar in recnt weeks.
“Ian is an outstanding goal scorer, his work rate is phenomenal with unselfish running off the ball, he is technically very good, but at the end of the day it’s a team game and his team mates create the opportunities or him, it’s his job to put the ball in the back of the net.”
