Amateur outfit Spencer Youth BC have withdrawn from the Gwent County FA Second Division, after being forced to fold due to a lack of players.
The club, whose alumni include former Welsh international Nathan Blake, last played a league match back in February – a 9-0 defeat at Ynysddu Welfare.
That demolition came on the back of a 10-2 hammering at home to Cwm, with the team having not won since a 4-2 victory over New Inn back in September.
It’s been a hugely difficult season for Spencer Youth, whom after starting the campaign with four straight wins, have conceded 98 goals in just 23 games.
The club came close to disbanding in 2008 due to the closure of their clubhouse and changing rooms, but an inability to regularly raise a side has now struck the fatal blow nearly 10 years on.
Spencer Youth has become the second team in the league to have folded this season, following the earlier demise of Sebastopol FC.
It is understood that members of the current squad have been transferred to other clubs.
A representative of Spencer Youth declined to comment.
