Caersws’ Graham Evans looking for five wins in a row

Graham Evans’ Caersws side have enjoyed another strong and successful season, sitting fifth in the table after 29 games with 15 wins, 3 draws and 11 losses.

With just one more game to play, Caersws are looking to end the season on a high – and could even finish fourth if results go their way.

Y Clwb Pel Droed caught up with the Caersws manager as he prepares for a very tough match against Holyhead who will be looking to bounce back from a league cup semi final defeat.

“A very difficult game. Holyhead are a hard working, well organised side and we’ll have to be at our best to get the 3 points we need to guarantee a top 5 finish.

“Holyhead will be disappointed to lose in the League Cup Semi last week and I know Campbell certainly won’t be allowing his lads to feel sorry for themselves nor will they be coming down to just make up the numbers.”

Having beaten Holyhead in the reverse fixture, Evans would settle for the same result again.

“I’d settle for the same result again! It was probably an uncharacteristic scoreline at Holyhead as they are normally very compact in defence.

“It was a terrific away performance and we caused them big problems with our movement going forward. But Holyhead are as dangerous as anyone in the league and have a match winner in Mel so we’ll have to be at it for the 90 minutes if we are to get the 3 points we want.”

Caersws have been in excellent form during the business end of the season, winning four in a row including notable victories over Flint and Porthmadog. Evans knows how well his side has done, and would love to make it five wins to the end the 2016/17 campaign.

“I’ve been very pleased. “After a very poor performance in the defeat to Penrhyncoch, the lads knew it wasn’t acceptable. Since then I can’t fault them, the work rate and desire has been exactly what we’ve asked for but the job isn’t done yet. The challenge set was to finish in the top 5 and I’ll be disappointed if that isn’t achieved now.”

There are 90 minutes of Caersws’ season left, but foundations for the next campaign are on the horizon. However, a blockbuster Central Wales Cup semi final against mid-Wales league high flyers Rhayder takes precedence.  boss already planning for next season.

“There’ve been plenty of thoughts ahead of next season, but at the moment we’ll be concentrating on Saturdays final league game before moving on to the Central Wales FA Cup Semi Final v Rhayader on Tuesday. We’ve built a good squad over the course of the season and will be opening talks for them all to re-sign.”

Caersws are without some key players when they welcome Holyhead.

“Lance Jones is suspended following his red card against Llanfair United and we are still without the long term injuries to Josh Hartrick, JoJo Harries, Mark Griffiths, Scott Williams, Graham Jones, Jack Bermingham and Callum Hawthorne.”

The game kicks off at Caerws FC at 2:30pm on Saturday 15 April.
