After a disappointing defeat to Cardiff Met last weekend, Bangor City were looking to return to the quality they displayed in their opening weekend match against The New Saints.
The result against the Premier League newboys could be perceived as a positive one, following their grit and determination shown at Nantporth on Friday evening.
Through an early goal by newly signed fullback Danny Holmes, a sweetly struck low range shot, Bangor looked content going forward and the showed a good rearguard throughout the game, quelling any Prestatyn pressure.
However, that being said, it wasn’t an easy match for the Citizens as Prestatyn put in a physical effort, showing their ability to match Kevin Nicholson’s side.
A feisty match which saw a number of yellow cards shown, the Seasiders were reduced to ten men.
Prestatyn showed they are not going to be a push over side, and will make taking three points against them a challenge. Bangor can take positives from this match with the ability to keep a clean clean sheet being one.
However, there were some encouraging points to take from the game for the home side. Namely in the shape of Luke Wall. The newly signed winger was brought into the game as a substitute replacement for City stalwart, Sion Edwards on the 55th minute.
Alongside him on the sideline joining the action, was Dean Rittenburg, who also made an impact on the match, replacing Daniel Nardiello, who seemed to limp off.
The tempo of the game changed, as the Citizens style turned to a faster paced attacking match. It was clear to see the impact the subs were having, particularly new boy Luke Wall. It’s fair to say the number four was definitely on the ball and eager to impress after being given his opportunity.
Gary Taylor-Fletcher’s presence was missed from the midfield, however the Citizens coped well and managed to earn a valuable three points in what was a very physical match which forced the Citizens to dig deep for the win. It shows this side can produce a workman like effort when needed.
Another excellent performance came from the man in midfield, Daniel Gosset. A player who rarely succumbs to a poor performance, he once again shon in his midfield duties, rightfully earning himself Sgorio Man of The Match.
He wasn’t afraid to get stuck in, put in a tough challenge and win the ball back, Gosset will be crucial to any success City gain this season.
Overall, Kevin Nicholson and Gary Taylor-Fletcher can look back at the result with encouragement, as their side battled hard and over came the physical barrage from the Seasiders. Despite only scoring once, they demonstrated the creative talent available to the squad.
