Eddie Maurice-Jones and Llyr Morris take Cymru Alliance monthly awards for September

Denbigh Town boss Eddie Maurice-Jones has been named as the Manager of the Month for September whilst Ruthin Town forward Llyr Hughes has been rewarded as Player of the Month in the Cymru Alliance.

After a poor start in August, Denbigh recovered to record four league wins, which included a 4-3 victory away to Porthmadog.

During the month the club had scored 14 times while conceding just four, three of which were in the game against Porthmadog.

Jones and his Denbighshire side have continued their good fortunes into October by beating Holyhead Hotspur 4-3 in the JD Welsh Cup last Saturday.

In terms of the Player of the Month award, surprisingly Ruthin Town’s Llyr Hughes has been given the award, ahead of a number of players who have had years of experience in the division.

He joined the first team squad the following season at the age of 17, became a regular player and helped win the Wrexham Area League Cup and reach the final of the NEWFA Cup that year.  Aberystwyth University beckoned but he continued to keep his links with the club playing when he could, especially toward the tail end of last season.

At the age of 21 (and in his testimonial year) he is back at Ruthin and has taken the Huws Gray Alliance by storm. He has scored 11 goals in his first 9 games and in September won more man of the match awards, as voted by the opposition, than any other player in the league. This has culminated in him winning the Huws Gray Alliance Player of the Month Award for September – a huge achievement considering the quality of the players in the league
