Flint Town United have parted ways with manager Andy Holden via mutual consent, the club confirmed in a statement today.
The ex-Hibs and Everton coach has left the club after a poor run of results has seen Flint sink to 11th in the Huws Gray Alliance league with three wins from nine.
Holden joined the club in the summer, bringing professional experience with him after spells as Hibernian’s assistant coach and a career at Everton as a member of Joe Royle’s coaching staff which left him highly respected at the Merseyside club.
As a local to the Flint area, he became Flint Town’s manager as the club eyed a progressive season in what is expected to be one of the most competitive Huws Gray Alliance for years.
However, losses against the likes of Caersws and Denbigh Town have seen the club slip away from the title-chasing pack, leading to Holden and Flint deciding to separate.
Aden Shannon has taken over as Interim Manager as the club eyes a quick climb up the league table.
The official statement, issued by Flint chairman Daryl Williams, said:
“Andy Holden joined Flint Town United from the professional side of the game and over his short tenure at Cae-y- Castell has had to encounter all of the frustrations semi-professional football brings. Whilst bringing him into the Flint Town United fold gave everyone a lift in terms of stature , it is clear to both Andy and the Club that the gulf in levels is clearly not the way forward for either the individual and the Club.
“Andy Holden is a Flint man through and through, who has a passion for the Town, and I would like to thank Andy for his efforts for Flint Town United and indeed his honesty in discussing both the Clubs and his own best interests.
The Club now falls into a period of transition and has agreed that Aden Shannon will take on the Role of Interim/Caretaker Manager whilst the Club takes a period of time for reflection.”
