Barry Town United manager Gavin Chesterfield was in a vibrant mood as he looked ahead to his side’s trip to Bala Town this Saturday following their first loss in five outings against Cefn Druids at Jenner Park last time out.
The Barry Town United manager remained calm as he reflected on Barry Town United’s season so far and admitted that his side has had their fair share of ups and downs so far.
“Much like most managers I imagine, several highs and a few lows and a lot in-between. We started the season with the live game which was a baptism of fire for the JD Welsh Premier League if you like – I thought the lads coped admirably and on another day we could have got three points.
We have gone away to some tough grounds and narrowly lost and we’ve got some magnificent results on our travels as well. Our home form has generally has been quite good – last Saturday being a blip really cause it was the worst 45 minutes second-half of our season so far, but I won’t let that shadow what’s gone on so far.
The lads have had to cope with a lot, new step-up in standards, getting to know new players, new grounds, an increase in pressure if you like and I think their togetherness has very much shone through. They’ve coped admirably and as a manager who knows them very well, I know there is a lot more to come so I can see us continuing to grow as a team.,” said Chesterfield.
Ahead of his side’s long trip to Bala Town this weekend, Chesterfield acknowledged that it won’t be an easy affair by any means and expects a tough trip to the side who are currently sitting in 8th place in the Welsh Premier League, one point behind Barry Town United.
“Yeah, another established Welsh Premier league team. Lots of experience, lots of quality – Colin (Colin Caton) is a proven manager as well so we go there knowing its going to be a tough game but its a game that we feel we can contribute positively too – every game away from home is tough in the Welsh Premier League but its one we look forward to,” said Chesterfield in an affirmative tone.
Barry Town United fans will be licking their lips at the prospect of Jordan Cotterill potentially returning to the starting XI following his long-term injury set-back and after earning 30 minutes from the bench in the 3-1 loss to Cefn Druids, he could be set to make his mark from the start.
Gavin Chesterfield was booming with confidence and admits that the playmaker can add that extra element of quality.
“He’s a Quality player – he has been doing great work for us over many years and I am delighted to have him back and he significantly sterengthens our squad. Its still early days in his recovery – he has worked extremely hard in his own personal time and with Ashley, our Sports therapist to get to this stage.
It was great to see him get 30 minutes on Saturday as well. There is no hiding he adds a lot more quality to our team,” admitted a joyous Chesterfield.
