Colin Caton has added to his Bala Town side by signing central midfielder Hyuga Tanner on a free transfer, following his release from Bolton Wanderers.
The 20-year-old can operate both a defensive midfielder, as well as an attacking midfielder, adding some spark into the centre of the pitch for the Lakesiders.
Tanner was in contention to feature for Bolton Wanderers first team, following his move from Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers, but the Trotters transfer embargo hindered first-team opportunities, as they were limited to having to choose from a 23-man squad.
He has an English father and a Japanese mother, but was born in Australia and qualified for their national team, where he represented them at youth level.
Speaking to FourFourTwo.au Tanner was eager to remain in the United Kingdom and after going on trial in Japan has returned to sign for the JD Welsh Cup winners.
“Unfortunately, the embargo has stopped me playing first-team football and I need to be out there getting some first-team experience,
“Hopefully I can find that here in the UK, because I love playing here but if it means to go somewhere abroad again that can be an option too.”
“Hyuga has been training with us for 10 weeks and has been very impressive. He’s recently returned from a trial in the J League in Japan too.” said Caton who was speaking to BalaTownFC.co.uk on how the club recruited the Australian midfielder.
“He is looking to get back into the full time game and we hope we can help him to do that. Tanner is a central midfielder and a very good addition for us.””
