Connah’s Quay’s Harwood to captain Wales colleges side

The first Welsh Premier League player to have been born during this millennium has been selected to captain the Welsh Colleges U18 side.

Conor Harwood, an academy product of Connah’s Quay Nomads, will represent the side at the upcoming Roma Caput Mundi Tournament.

It will be his second appearance at the international tournament, as he was named player of the tournament in last year’s competition.

He will be joined by fellow Connah’s Quay youth Karter Cutler-Evans who has also been selected for the squad.

The Welsh Colleges program is led by all time Welsh Premier League top goalscorer Marc Lloyd-Williams, who scored 319 goals during a Welsh career spent at clubs including Porthmadog, Bangor, Rhyl, Airbus and Newtown.

Connah’s Quay’s director of football Jay Catton said:

“It’s fantastic news for the Club that both Connor and Karter have been selected for the Welsh Colleges side.

To also hear that Connor has been selected to captain the national side is brilliant to hear and fully deserved for a talented young footballer.

Both players have come through The Nomads Academy system and began the Academy Scholarship program in partnership with Coleg Cambia in September 2016.

Both have been regulars for the scholarship side and under 19s with Connor also having made a number of Welsh Premier appearances over two years.”
