Prestatyn Town FC have moved to appoint A Licence coach Gareth Wilson as first team manager following Neil Gibson’s departure from the club last week.
Wilson, who has been with the club since 2009 as a player and more recently part of the coaching staff, will take over first team affairs with immediate effect and has asked Prestatyn stalwart Steve Rogers to join the club as assistant manager.
In a club statement Prestatyn said ‘He will be determined to ensure Prestatyn maintain their status as a JD Welsh Premier League club and his first game at the helm will be the trip to Carmarthen on Saturday’.
Wilson, often known as ‘Willo’, is tasked with keeping the club in the top flight as it currently sits 11th in the relegation zone and faces a tough phase two campaign to retain its premier league status.
Speaking to Prestatyn’s official website Wilson said:
“ Firstly, I’d like to go on record to say what a fantastic job Neil has done over the last 14 years. He brought me in as a player, developed me as a coach and assistant manager to allow me to take the position I have today. I would also say he’s left a wonderful legacy in terms of the 70 + players he’s given Welsh Premier debuts to and also the infrastructure he developed”
Gareth continued, “I’m delighted to have Steve Rogers on board as my assistant. He has a wealth of knowledge around the game and this will be invaluable going forward.
Gareth has asked that Neil’s backroom staff of Mark Boulton, Jonathan Price, Richie Ingram and Martin Jones remain in post and continuing their duties as before. The only change to the backroom staff sees goalkeeper coach Paul Whitfield step down by mutual consent.
