Why Huw Griffiths deserves manager of the season award, no matter what happens in JD Welsh Premier League play-off final Sunday

Huw Griffiths has done a terrific job this season, which could be rounded off by the Druids booking their place in the Europa League next season with a win over Cardiff Met on Sunday.

Make no mistake about it, Griffiths has worked absolute wonders for the Ancients this season – and has guided them to fourth in the league.

They keep plucking away – and they’re the sort of side which never know when they’re quite beaten. This will no doubt serve them well when it comes to the final on Sunday.

Of course, it being held at the Rock, the ground of the Druids, will only benefit them as well. They’re a side with qualify and Griffiths has brought a great philosophy to the club.

They aren’t the most attractive team in the world to watch, but football is a results business and the druids have definitely ground out results when they have most needed them the most over the course of this season.

They ended the season with a highly-impressive 2-0 win over Connah’s Quay Nomads, and they will be looking to build on that in the final come Sunday lunchtime.

They started the season with a 3-0 home loss to the students. But all that is behind them now, they have come along way. And they could finish the season with a date with the Europa League next season.

Most of that work is down to Griffiths, who has done a great job of lifting his team when they have needed it the most. Nobody thought they would be in this position come Sunday, and if there is one man who deserves immense credit, it is Griffiths.

Alec Mudimu has also had a massive impact since being signed by Griffiths in the summer, and he is currently their top scorer heading into Sunday’s final, having scored on seven occasions so far over the course of this campaign.

Of course, it would be nice for him to taste some glory and for his side to qualify for Europe for the first time since the 2012/2013 season, when they lost to Finnish oufit, MYPA 5-0. No matter what happens now, Griffiths deserves the manager of the season award.

He has transformed the Druids this season. The club finished eighth last season, but they have gone from strength to strength this season and a win Sunday would cap off a marvellous campaign for Griffiths and his troops.
