Welsh Football League Round-Up: MD1 – 10/08/2018 – 11/08/2018

STM Sports were the big winners on the opening weekend of the Welsh League, putting twelve goals past West End on the opening Saturday.

They trailed 3-2 at one point, but Dale Gardiner’s men came from behind to move top of Division Two.

Andy Gardiner, Ben Ahmun and Josh Graham were on the scoresheet twice, whilst Chris Worsley and Joey Evans were on the scoresheet, as well as an own goal.

Division One

Tier two football returned on Friday when Dale Williams took charge of his first game of Cambrian. It wasn’t the dream start for him though, as Arnie Cube’s strike gave Briton Ferry the victory at the Cambrian 3G.

On Saturday, a new look Ton Pentre with an old face of Leon Jacka narrowly lost to Afan Lido.

There was an eight-goal thriller between Cwmamman United and Undy Athletic, as Jason Pritchard got on to a winning start Dan Jarman continuing his goalscoring form from last season.

New boys Llantwit Major and Pontypridd Town both had away defeats, to Goytre and Haverfordwest respectively.

Adrian Needs lost his first game as Taffs Well boss, with Cullen Kinsella scoring the only goal.

Former Well boss Nana Baah was working as assistant manager to Lee Challenger in Cwmbran Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Goytre United.

Division Two

Both Bridgend Street and Swansea University got off to winning ways after winning promotion Adam ore, Elliot Jones and Nick Hyden scored away at Llwydcoed to give the Students the victory.

The Mission secured three points late on in the South Wales capital. Jeff White scored inside thirteen seconds before an own goal from Fowler in the second half levelled things up. With ten minutes remaining, Fowler scored at the right end, with a curling free-kick.

Caerau Ely who were relegated returned to Division Two with a three-goal victory over Aberdare Town, Dean Clifford, Jerome Actie and Nathan Mathias on the scoresheet for Craig Sampson’s men.

Monmouth Town, under Nick Morgan’s control now, drew 1-1 with Garden Village, with new signing Rhys Owen scoring for the Swansea side.

Elsewhere there were wins for Aberbargoed, Croesyceiliog and Pontardawe.

Division Three

A new look Newport City side had new signing James Hill to thank. The former Pontypridd Town man scored the only goal as they beat Tredegar Town at Spytty Park on Friday in the opening game of Division Three.

AFC Porth who finished bottom of Division Two last season, lost to Treowen Stars.

Trethomas Bluebirds drew 2-2 as summer signing Jordan Needs was on the scoresheet. Jamie Wearn scored for Treharris in a draw between Chepstow and Treharris.

It was an eight goal thriller at Panteg, with Pontyclun coming away with the points. Joel Woodington scored a hat trick.

Welsh Football League Cup champions Trefelin BGC were held to a draw with Ely Rangers, who narrowly avoided the drop last season.

New boys Albion Rovers secured a point against Ynysygerwn, with Joe Howells scoring a brace.
