Barry Town United earned their first three points of the JD Welsh Premier League season in dramatic style, but what were the major talking points from the game at Jenner Park?
Barry won a thrilling encounter in the Vale of Glamorgan; as they beat eight-man Bala Town 3-2 at Jenner Park to record their first ever win over the Lakesiders.
But what were the other talking points from this Matchday Two JD Welsh Premier League encounter? Find out below…
Barry fight to the end to earn their first three points of the season…
This was a fantastic performance from Gavin Chesterfield’s men, who fought till the very death to ensure they took all three points.
But they kept fighting and probing, and eventually, it paid dividends as Kayne McLaggon forced the ball into the back of the net to give the hosts a deserved three points against the Lakesiders, who ended the game with eight men.
Bala’s ill-discipline costs them after bright start at Jenner Park
Bala Town just completely imploded in the second half, which is, of course, a shame for them, after they started with such positivity going forward.
There was a real spark about them in an attacking sense, there is little doubt about that – and they showed that as Chris Venables connected with a Henry Jones’ free-kick, not once, but twice.
But at the end of the day, they must be better disciplined, as Evan Horwood, Sean Smith and captain and scorer of both of Bala’s goals, Venables, was dismissed after picking up a second yellow card late on into the game as the Lakesiders imploded.
Thomas Fry shines for Linnets on competitive home debut
This was a fantastic performance from Tom Fry, who was making his home debut following a move from Scottish League One side Airdrieonians in the summer.
He was a constant threat going forward and scored a pivotal goal in the first-half in what was a sensational free-kick right on the stroke of half-time.
He worked tirelessly throughout and can be proud of his efforts. The 21-year-old, former Wales under-19 international could now prove to be an influential figure moving forward after helping Barry Town United to their first three points of the 2018/2019 season at Jenner Park.
