Mid Wales action turns towards the League Cup this weekend. With 13 bumper fixtures taking place in Round One, there is plenty of action in Mid Wales this coming weekend.
Division One
Berriew vs Caersws
Fourth vs first with both teams in fine form. Berriew come off of the back of a 5-0 trashing of Churchstoke at home, whilst Caersws reached the top of Division One with a fine 3-0 home win against Carno last time out.
However, Caersws have won eight of their nine league fixtures so far this term and have the most lethal attack in the division, having netted an impressive 42 goals already this season. Berriew’s defence will have to be at their best to marshal the danger.
Llanfair vs Llanidloes
Another top of the table clash features third against fifth as Llanidloes visit Mount Field. The away side come into the game in slightly better recent form with four points from a possible six.
Llanfair came unstuck in their last outing at Welshpool as the former Welsh Premier League side ran out 3-1 winners.
So there could be some movement in the top six on Saturday with the rest of the teams occupied with cup games.
League Cup
Hay St Mary’s vs Radnor Valley
Third placed Mid Wales Division Two side Hay St Mary’s meet second placed Mid Wales Division One side Radnor Valley in this eagerly anticipated local derby.
In this local derby, St Mary’s will be looking to usurp their local rivals in the opening round of the cup, but with the hosts being a division lower, they will face a tough task in getting one over their local neighbours.
Llansantffraid vs Four Crosses
Just ten league places separate these two teams as Division One meets Division Two, but Llansantffraid will be hoping their Division One side can battle it out against their Division Two counterparts. The hosts have won just once this season in the league, and will be eager to right their wrongs in the cup this weekend.
Presteigne vs Llandrindod
Division Two side Presteigne will have home advantage playing against higher opposition, Llandrindod in this exciting cup fixture.
However they will have to stop an inform Ryan Simms after he scored two to help Llandrindod see off Four Crosses in the Welsh cup last week. Having yet to win this season, the hosts will want to take the opportunity to get the momentum rolling for their campaign with a victory.
Welshpool vs Waterloo Rovers
This local derby sees former JD Welsh Premier League side Welshpool take on Waterloo Rovers in the cup. The home side have four wins to their name in Division One this year, and will be favourites against their neighbours. But, in local derbies, form often goes out the window and the Division Two side will be looking to gain the bragging rights.
Aberaeron vs Aber Uni
This is Aber Uni’s first game of the season after the students have returned to university, and the cup game against Aberaeron will prove to be a tough fixture to this new season.
Aberaeron will be hoping their momentum having started the season already will prove to be vital in the outcome of this one.
Abermule vs Kerry
Three straight league wins sees Abermule well placed to challenge a Kerry side who come into this one on the back of two league defeats.
Kerry are the higher placed of the two sides and will be hoping their experience in Division One will help them overcome their Division Two challengers who have collected 10 points from six games so far this term.
Borth Utd vs Bow Street
Borth left it late in the Welsh Cup against their higher league opposition last time out, but will be hoping to respond with a more comfortable victory in the cup this time out.
Both sides have won just once this season in their respective divisions and will be hoping for better fortunes in the cup this weekend.
Machynlleth vs Carno
Eleventh in Division Two meets eleventh in Division One in the Cup. The Division One side will be favourites, but they will be hoping their attack who have scored 11 times this term, can step up to guide their side to victory.
Montgomery vs Churchstoke
This a good opportunity for the home side to test themselves against a Churchstoke side at the wrong end of Division One. Montgomery lead Division Two with 17 points so far this season, and they will be hoping their impressive form can catch the visitors off guard.
Newbridge-on-Wye vs Builth Wells
Both of Builth’s league wins have come away from home in Division One but they are up against an inform Newbridge side sitting second in the league below. Builth will be hoping to avoid any slip ups in this one.
Tywyn Bryncrug vs Dolgellau
Despite home advantage Tywyn will have to play well to beat lower league Dolgellau who come into the tie after two league wins so far this term. It will be a good opportunity for Tywyn to regain some momentum an advance in the cup this weekend.
