Imagine idolising your footballing hero as you grew up to playing alongside him and earning praise from him. Haverfordwest County’s Danny Williams can say he’s done that.
Swansea City supporter Danny Williams was a regular visitor to the Liberty Stadium and The Vetch, as Lee Trundle dazzled for the Swans for four years.
But now, rather than paying to watch his footballing hero, he gets to play alongside him, for Division One club Haverfordwest County.
This summer, Lee Trundle continued his involvement to domestic Welsh football, by moving from champions Llanelli Town to Haverfordwest, as the Bluebirds aim for promotion back to the Premier League.
It’s thrilled Williams, who has described playing alongside the 42-year-old as ‘surreal’.
“To now be playing alongside him and sharing the same pitch as him it is a bit surreal.
He’s been different class with me both on and off the pitch.
He’s always offering me advice, sharing his experiences and his knowledge of the game with me.
Anything he tells or shares with me I try to take it on board straight away.”
But despite Trundle’s Football League experience, it’s Williams who is leading the way, by being the current top goalscorer in Division One of the Welsh Football League.
Williams has nine goals, to Trundle’s seven in the league this season, but if combine the goals the pair have scored, they’ve scored an impressive 23, just three months into the season.
The 19-year-old said: “It took us a few games to work out how we both liked to play but now it’s come almost naturally. I think there’s only more to come.”
It’s a motion that is echoed by Trundle, who tweeted to his 60k followers, how he feels his strike partner will go further on into the game.
Glittering praise, from a player who has had a long career in football. As well as being considered one of the greats, of your boyhood club.
Great goals lad. Your getting better week by week. Your gonna make it Dan x

It’s a partnership that has a blend of experience and youth. Trundle has seen it all throughout his professional career, with Williams certainly benefitting.
Away from his admiration for Trundle, the 19-year-old is certainly catching the attention of the Welsh domestic scene, with his impressive performances.
He’s bounced back from being released by his boyhood club Swansea, as well as having to deal with missing out on signing for Bristol Rovers, due to his geographical location.
But Williams determination has seen him become one of the Welsh League’s hottest properties.
The setbacks have morphed Williams into a better player. He represented Wales at Academy Level, as well as captaining the Welsh Colleges team to success at U18’s and U19’s level.
Danny Williams is also a Football Coaching student at the University of South Wales.
This allows him to play football for the university. A progression from playing at colleges level.
Most recently, he was on the scoresheet for USW, as they secured a draw against Welsh Premier League side Cardiff Metropolitan, who are the reigning BUCS National Champions.
“I’m really enjoying my football at the moment, whoever I’m playing for.”
As he excels for Haverfordwest County, as well as playing at University level, the sky really is the limit for the Swans academy product.
