Momodou Touray’s second goal in successive weeks helped Barry maintain their 100% record as they saw off a stubborn 10-man Llandudno side in torrid conditions in the Vale of Glamorgan as they moved up to second in the JD Welsh Premier League.
Llandudno took the lead through Mike Pearson’s header before Barry equalised through a Kayne McLaggon penalty.
The hosts then had a goal disallowed, before Mike Pearson was dismissed and Touray smartly cushioned his shot past Shaun Pearson to help the Linnets to their sixth home win on the spin in the JD Welsh Premier League.
The Linnets now face a tough when they make the long journey to face-off against current leaders, Connah’s Quay Nomads at the Deeside Stadium. Llandudno, on the other hand, host Bala Town at the Giant Hospitality Stadium.
Match Report
It was quiet start at Jenner Park but the visitors had the better of the opening exchanges as wide-man Toby Jones drove towards the byline before pulling the ball back for John Owen, but he missed the ball completely and Barry cleared their lines.
Llandudno were excellent in the first half and had the first proper chance as Danny Hughes played in John Owen, but he lashed his effort against the post.
But the Seasiders were ahead just moments later from a free-kick as Leo Smith floated a wonderful ball into the area and Mike Pearson rose highest to give the visitors the lead courtesy of a power header in what was a superb start from Iwan Williams’ side.
Barry were gradually starting to grow more into the game at Jenner Park and the tenacious Chris Hugh won a corner, before floating in a wonderful ball following a corner – which was headed just over the bar by defender Luke Cooper.
The Linnets continued to pressure the Seasiders down the left-hand side and it was Hugh again who was causing them problems as he fired a dangerous ball across the face of the goal but nobody was there to prod home to give the hosts an equaliser.
But moments later they would be level as the magnificent Hugh put a wonderful ball into the box and Kayne McLaggon was brought down, which resulted in a penalty for the Linnets.
And McLaggon made no mistake from the penalty spot, sending Pearson the wrong way to bring Barry back on level terms in what was an intriguing start to the game in the Vale of Glamorgan.
There was a frantic start to the second-half as Jonathan Hood had his volley disallowed, with Kayne McLaggon was standing in an offside position – it appeared controversial, however, as it appeared he was standing in the goal and not interfering with play.
A minute later and Mike Pearson was dismissed after picking up a second booking for a challenge on McLaggon and it meant Barry were now in the ascendency.
And they made their extra man count as Momodou Touray bagged his fourth goal of the season for the Linnets as he smartly fired his shot past Pearson, with Chesterfield’s side well on top of the visitors following Pearson’s sending off.
After that, there was little goal-mouth action as the game fizzled out as Barry recorded an astonishing sixth home win on the spin in the Welsh top-flight this campaign.
Man of the Match (Chris Hugh)
A phenomenal display from the tenacious full-back, who was a constant threat down the left-hand side throughout the afternoon.
Played a big part in Barry earning a penalty with another marauding run and cross, before McLaggon was upheld in the penalty area.
Proved again why he is one of the best full-backs in the JD Welsh Premier League. An absolute joy to watch and when he is in this type of form, he is a defenders nightmare.
