Third tier Llangefni Town knocked out Premier League outfit Llanelli Town in one of the only few shocks of Round Three of the Welsh Cup.
It’s the first time since 2010 that an Anglesey based side has reached the last sixteen of the JD Welsh Cup.
Newtown was the only other shock as Rhyl claimed victory at Latham Park over the Robins, where their home form has been good this season.
Having taken the lead through Neil Mitchell in the 22nd minute, the Lilywhites scored their goals in the second half through Partridge and Hassall as they progressed to the next round.
The only dampener of the weekend was floodlight failure forcing Flint Town United and Bala Town to abandon the game, following Kieran Smith’s first minute opener.
Relegation strugglers Llandudno avoided a Cup set as they came back from behind to beat Briton Ferry Llansawel. Tyler Brock gave the South Wales side the lead but a brace from Mark Connolly and a goal from George Harry gave the Seasiders a much-needed victory.
Reigning cup holders Connah’s Quay needed extra time as they clawed back from two goals down to claim victory. Callum Bromley provided Guils with the opening goal before Steve Blenkinsop doubled their advantage. Callum Morris and Michael Bakare scores in normal time for the Nomads before extra time goals from Michael Wilde and Ryan Wignall.
The Welsh Alliance League side narrowly beat the struggling Reds thanks to a Alan Mark-Owen goal in the first half. They’re the first Anglesey side to reach this stage of the competition since 2010.
The lowest ranked team left in the competition Ynysddu Welfare exited in the Cup as they were unable to pull off the biggest upset. Dean Rittenberg and Naim Arsan scored in the first half to give the Ancients a gap, but Lloyd Stone pulled one back for Welfare. Lewis Barnett was shown two yellow cards, as Jordan Evans late free-kick sealed the game for Huw Griffiths’ side.
Bangor City, Barry Town United and Caernarfon Town progressed on Friday evening.
The Citizens beat Holyhead Hotspur with two goals each for Alex Darlington and Robbie Parry. John Littlemore scored a consolation for Holyhead.
Barry needed extra time to beat Penybont as Luke Borrelli cancelled out Macauley Southam-Hales opener. In extra time, Jonathan Hood, Louis Gerrard and Momodou Touray scored to take the Welsh Premier League side through.
Noah Edwards scored on his return to Bastion Gardens as his goal and a brace from Cai Jones gave Cofis the victory over Prestatyn.
Airbus UK Broughton progressed past fellow Cymru Alliance side Porthmadog by winning on penalties as Lewis Buckley cancelled out Julian Williams opener.
Aberystwyth Town survived a late push from Cwmamman United to continue their good run of form. Rio Ahmadi opened the scoring before James Bryan levelled things towards the break. Ashley Ruane scored a sixteen minute hat-trick to give Aber some leeway. Before James Bryan scored with a minute to go to cause a few nerves.
The New Saints made sure they weren’t to be knocked out of competitions by two Welsh League sides this season. In an earlier kick off, Chris Seargeant scored a hat-trick to knock out Cwmbran Celtic. Chris Ham missed the chance to draw back a consolation goal as his late penalty was saved.
Cambrian & Clydach came out on top in the Huws Gray v Welsh League tie. Denbigh took the lead through Pat Hinchcliffe in the first half, but an equaliser from 36-year-old Mark Crutch and a late winner from Corey Shephard gave the Rhondda side the victory. Cambrian also missed a penalty.
Haverfordwest County beat Pontypridd in the all Welsh League affair. Ashley Bevan, Ben Fawcett and Danny Williams all scored against a threadbare Pontypridd side.
Cardiff Metropolitan survived an early scare to book their place into the Round Four draw. Lee Price scored in the third minute to rustle a few feathers.
