Barry Town United’s Gavin Chesterfield and Kayne McLaggon have been awarded the JD Welsh Premier League Manager and Player of the Month awards respectively for their performances in December.
Barry picked up four league wins in their five games in December, and McLaggon was a central figure to Barry’s success in the last month of a successful 2018 for Barry.
The former JD Welsh Premier League champions surprised the league and topped the league table to end 2018, as they have kept pace with both The New Saints and Connah’s Quay Nomads.
But, December was a particularly excellent month for the club.
They started the month with a 4-1 victory over Newtown, before travelling to Richmond Park to turn over Carmarthen Town 3-2.
Chesterfield then navigated a tricky home fixture against Caernarfon Town, as they came out 2-1 victors, as McLaggon netted his second in two games.
Barry then defeated Cardiff Met 2-1 at Jenner Park with McLaggon netting his third in consecutive fixtures, before they were defeated 3-0 by the Archers at Cyncoed Campus.
They have kept their form up into 2019, and still lead the title charge heading into Phase Two.
The club have picked up 15 wins in 22 games, with just two points separating the top spot and the Nomads in third.
McLaggon’s excellent form has been supplemented by the addition of Momodou Touray to the side.
The club will be looking to replicate their December form to keep pace in the title race for the second half of the season.
