Nomads sign Dundee United’s Barton in loan deal

Connah’s Quay Nomads have made an 11th hour January transfer window move to sign midfielder Adam Barton on loan from Scottish Championship side Dundee United.

In this season so far he has played a total of ten times for the Tangerines, scoring the once in the Scottish League Cup.

An experienced player in both the English and Scottish leagues, he made more than 60 appearances for Partick Thistle during their Scottish Premier League spell.

Barton was named the Scottish Premiership’s player of the month in October 2016, and has also earned an international cap for Northern Ireland against Morocco in 2010.

He has also represented the Republic of Ireland’s U21s on five occasions and spent time at Portsmouth, Coventry City and Preston North End.

Manager Andy Morrison told the club’s official website: “We’re delighted to sign Adam on loan until the end of the season. His experience and quality will definitely add to the squad.”

The seasoned player is the latest addition to a Nomads squad already full of experience, with captain George Horan, stalwart forward Michael Wilde and keeper John Danby all mainstays in the Deesiders squad.

Barton joins centre half Priestley Farquharson and goalkeeper Lewis Brass as Nomads’ new host of signings, with defender Jake Phillips also returning from his loan spell at Bangor City.

The club were in the market for centre-back Anthony Stephens but were beaten by Stephens’ former club Bala Town.
