It’S fair to say that Bodedern Athletic are having quite the season.
The Green army are currently sat in second place in the Welsh Alliance One table, just one point behind Llandudno Albion, who they happen to have four games in hand over. They have lost just three matches in the league and remain in contention in the Mawddach Cup too, having reached the quarter finals.
Manager Ricky Williams is enjoying his second stint at Cae Ty Cristion and his fourth year in charge since the club reformed – the highlight of which he has always said was winning the final ten games of the season the year they won the Gwynedd League.
This weekend, he faces one of his toughest challenges of the season as his side face a trip to Llangefni Town in the quarter final stage of the FAW Trophy. Speaking to Arron Evans, Williams said he is “quietly confident” of progressing to the competition’s final four.
“An away trip to Llangefni is a huge test of how far we have come in the last couple of years,” he added. “They have some excellent players at their disposal but I’m quietly confident that if we play to our strengths, then we can give them a really good game and hopefully take out place in the last four of the competition.
“The FAW Trophy is a competition I had targeted for us to do well in prior to the season getting started. We’ve already beaten some good sides to get to this stage and Saturday will be another huge test for us.”
Bodedern have already beaten Pentraeth, Llandyrnog United, Chirk AAA and Four Crosses FC on their way to the last eight of the FAW Trophy. Manager Williams says although it’s been a great season so far for the club, he is wary that there is still a lot to be played for.
“The season has gone really well to date but me, Darren (Thomas, assistant manager) and the lads know there is a lot of football still to be played,” he added.
“So, we’ll take it one game at a time and see where it gets us as the end of the season. “I’ve had a few stand out performers over the course of the season and there is no doubt about it, it’s been more of a team effort, as, if I’m honest, all of our players have been excellent. A surprise performer for us has been Jordan Taylor in goal – he’s an outfield player who helped us out between the sticks at the start of the season. He’s been sensational at times, I always knew he could do a job in goal but his level of performances have been outstanding.”
