Pontypridd Town appoint Welsh Premier League legend Kendall as new First Team Manager

Pontypridd Town have appointed former Welsh Premier League goalkeeper Lee Kendall as their new First Team Manager.

The 38-year-old takes over from Gavin Beddard, who will remain with the club in a playing capacity.

The Dragons are currently bottom of Division One, winning just three of their 19 games, and will be hopeful that Kendall can guide them to safety.

A narrow 4-3 defeat to Llantwit Major on Saturday proved to be Beddard’s final game in charge.

Kendall, who represented teams including Barry Town, Rhyl and Neath,  began his coaching career with the Youth Academy at Sheffield United, working under former Wales boss Gary Speed.

He then worked at Cardiff City, before being appointed the First Team Goalkeeper Coach at Bristol City.

In January 2014, he took up the role as  Goalkeeper Coach of the England women’s national team, working alongside former Taffs Well boss Mark Sampson.

The Haverfordwest County stalwart then joined Barry Town United as a coach in the summer of 2018. He also works as head coach at the University of South Wales.

Kendall’s first game in charge of the club will be against Ammanford on Saturday. The Dragons were promoted from Division Two with Gruff Harrison’s side last season.
