Lex Glyndwr have withdrawn from the Premier Division of the Welsh National League after being unable to field a team.
The news was confirmed on the Welsh National League website, with their record taken off the league table. Lex XI Reserves have also resigned from the Reserves & Colts League.
Lex had managed to play seventeen league games but were rock bottom of the Division. They won just one game and drew three times, losing their other 13 games. There are now 15 teams remaining in the Premier Division.
The club has aims to restart in a lower division next season.
Mike Davies released a statement on behalf of the club saying: “It is with great sadness and regret that I have to inform you that Lex XI is resigning with immediate effect.
“This is not a decision that we have taken lightly, but we felt that it is the correct and honourable step to take out of respect for the League and all the other clubs.
“Over the last few weeks, we have suffered an exodus of layers to other clubs, following the resignation of our manager.
“To continue as we are would be unfair to present players, and to the other clubs in the league.
“This has been a very difficult and painful decision.”
In April 2017, Lex won the Division One title, finishing 8th in their first season in the Premier Division. Previously known as Lex Glyndwr, they reverted to Lex XI last year.
The Wrexham based club were founder members of the Cymru Alliance and played in the second tier of Welsh football for a total of 20 years.
Ten years ago to the day, Lex Glyndwr beat now Welsh Premier League side Bala Town, 4-3 on their way to a top six finish in the Cymru Alliance.
In July 2017, Lex managed to draw a 1200 crowd at a pre-season friendly with English non-league side Wrexham.
