Colwyn Bay will decide whether they will move to the Welsh domestic system in a vote that will take place next week.
The club have called upon all shareholders to attend a meeting at the club on March 7th at 7:30pm, when they will hold a vote to decide their future.
It was revealed earlier this week that the club had been considering a switch to the Welsh domestic system after running into difficulties within the English system.
In a statement posted on the club’s Facebook page, the chairman stated that the club needed “£100,000 more revenue to stay competitive in the English system” before arguing that “to carry on as they are would see the club go out of business altogether inside two years”.
Chairman Bill Murray outlined that the club faced three possible options for its immediate and long term future.
“1 Stay as we are and see the club fold.
2 Stay in England on a drastically reduced budget and face repeated battles against relegation
3 Start again in local Welsh football and look to build from there to possible Welsh Premier status in three to four years”
If the club were to follow option three, the club outlined that the management team of Craig Hogg and Neil Coverley “would consider staying with the club providing there was a realistic and feasible plan in place with a view to taking the club forward”.
The club were offered the opportunity to make the switch to Wales upon the formation of the League of Wales but decided to retain their status within the English system, as part of a group of clubs dubbed “The Irate Eight”, who all rejected the chance to join the Welsh pyramid system.
The club already have a reserve side in the reserve division of the Welsh Alliance League, and have entered a youth side into the FAW Youth Cup. But now are considering moving their first team to the system too.
Following the announcement, the club have now issued a statement asking all the club shareholders to attend a meeting to vote on their future.
The club have also asked any shareholders unable to attend to send their vote to the club chairman via proxy before noon on the day of the meeting.
