Prestatyn Town strengthen their squad with four WPL additions

Prestatyn Town have signed four former players from Welsh Premier League clubs.

Jack Kenny, Kai Edwards, Mike Parker and Rob Hughes have all returned to Prestatyn Town for the inaugural FAW Championship North.

Mike Parker and Rob Hughes were both released by the Connah’s Quay Nomads recently and have both rejoined Prestatyn, having previously spent time at the club in previous spells.

Parker was a legendary figure at Prestatyn Town, having began his career at Bastion Gardens. His goals helped fire the club to the Welsh Premier League, as well as winning the Welsh Cup.

With almost 250 appearances in the Welsh top flight for a number of clubs, Parker is the Prestatyn Town’s record goalscorer in the Welsh Premier League.

Midfielder Rob Hughes left the club for arch-rivals Rhyl in 2014 before playing for Goulbourn Valley Suns in Australia for 12 months.

He returned to Welsh football in January 18 and helped Connah’s Quay to a Welsh Cup win. Prestatyn said that Hughes turned down lucrative offers from other clubs to rejoin the Seasiders.

Prestatyn have also managed to secure the services of Cefn Druids forward Jack Kenny. Kenny.

Having spent two years at the club, where he was a key member of the 2016/2017 Cymru Alliance title winning side. Kenny left the club and joined Connah’s Quay where first team opportunities were limited. He later joined Cefn Druids earlier this year.

Although brief, Kai Edwards had a loan spell with Prestatyn Town in 2010, helping them reach the Europa League playoffs.

The 28-year-old defender missed only two games in the Welsh Premier League this season, having made 30 appearances for Llandudno.

As well as the four players returning to the club, Captain David Hayes has agreed to stay on with Prestatyn having come out of retirement last season, winning the Player of the Year in both votes.

Speaking to the club, the Seasiders skipper said:It was a much easier decision this time. The plans that Gibbo has going forward are really exciting.”
