Rhyl defeated eight-man STM Sports to progress to the next round of the Welsh Cup.
Aaron Hassall’s first-half effort was supplemented by Tom Creamer’s late strike as Rhyl returned to winning aways after two consecutive league defeats.
Three STM Sports players and one coach were shown red cards as the Mellons finished with three fewer players than the Lilywhites.
Josh Graham was shown a straight red card for a foul on Arek Pisorski.
Hermon Yohanes and Marcus Jones were both shown their second yellow cards in the final ten minutes as STM conceded a further goal to Rhyl.
Rhyl manager Eddie Maurice-Jones said:
“We are in the next round and that’s all that matters but performance-wise it was not good enough and nowhere near what we are capable of.
“I thought we played down to their level and made it a battle which it didn’t need to be, but credit to the lads they came through it.
“As the game went on the gaps started to appear and we should have punished them.
“We had big chances to increase the lead and we needed a bit more composure in the final third as you have to be taking those chances whatever level you are playing at.”
