Wales international midfielder Elise Hughes has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The Bristol City Women’s player – on loan from parent club Everton – suffered the injury in a Women’s Super League match against Liverpool on the 19th January.
Hughes, 18, made three appearances for the Robins after signing earlier this month.
Following the diagnosis of the injury, Hughes has returned to her Merseyside club to continue a rehabilitation programme.
A stalwart member of Jayne Ludlow’s Welsh side recently, Hughes had started all four of Wales’ UEFA Women’s Euro 2021 qualifying fixtures remainder of the campaign.
With a rehabilitation period of between six and nine months, Hughes could potentially miss three qualifying matches.
Their next game is a friendly at the Racecourse Ground against Estonia on March 6.
Wales final game of the campaign is against group favourites Norway on September 22, who are currently unbeaten.
