UEFA Elite Rounds: U17, U19 and Women’s U17 games postponed

Wales U17 and U19 teams have had their Elite Round fixtures postponed, due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The U19s were due to host Austria, Germany and Serbia later this month.

Wales’ U17s side were also due to fly out to Poland to face the hosts, along with Italy and Montenegro. Their female counterparts also saw their fixtures postponed. Wales were meant to play France, England and Slovakia next week.

UEFA confirmed they will hold a meeting with each member of its 55 member associations on Tuesday.

A statement released by UEFA said: “In the light of developments due to the spread of COVID-19 in Europe and the related travelling restrictions imposed by governments, all Elite round mini-tournaments of the U17 and WU17, U19 and WU19 European championships, due to take place between 14 March and 14 April 2020, are postponed.

“This is a general precautionary measure, taken to avoid the possibility of players – many of whom would be minors – being stranded away from their families in the event of host governments declaring lockdowns or quarantines.

“Further information about the rescheduling of these competitions will be given in due course, after a thorough assessment of options.”

UEFA also confirmed they will hold a meeting with each member of its 55 member associations on Tuesday.

They will discuss the future of this season’s Champions League, Europa League and the domestic seasons, along with Euro 2020, which Wales are involved in.
