Llandudno: Seasiders relieve manager Jones of his duties

Llandudno have parted company with first-team manager Matthew Jones.

The former Rhyl boss spent just one season at Maesdu Park having been appointed as the successor to Iwan Williams following their relegation from the Cymru Premier in 2019.

Llandudno finished 12th in the Cymru North following the curtailment of the 2019/20 season with Jones accumulating 21 points out of a possible 63.

A statement on the official website said: “Llandudno Football Club can today confirm that following the FAW’s curtailment of the domestic season, that Matthew Jones has been relieved his duties as 1st Team Manager of Llandudno Football Club.

“The club would like to place on record its gratitude, and best wishes to Matty for his dedication and effort, over the 2019/20 campaign.

“The club will begin its recruitment process for a new 1st Team Manager immediately, in preparation for the new campaign.”

An immediate response to the clubs’ statement was issued by the departing boss: “I’m desperately disappointed, it’s been a tough year but I feel the groundwork had been laid to really kick on next season. This is football though.

“I would just like to say a huge thank you to the players, backroom staff, JP, the Llandudno supporters and all the volunteers for the support they have given over the last season.

“I really am gutted not to be a part of the next stage with this group.”

In another statement issued by the club, Llandudno say they are now accepting applications for the role as first-team manager for the 2020/21 season.

A minimum requirement of the UEFA A Licence along with “experience of the welsh football setup, a proven track record, good motivational and man-management skills, and contacts within the game to attract a competitive side,” has been asked of potential suitors.

“This is not considered a full time, employed position and remuneration will be by negotiation during the interview process.

“To apply for the position a Football CV and covering email must be sent to vacancies@llandudnofc.co.uk.”
