Former Cymru Premier defender Nathan Jones guides Luton Town to safety

Nathan Jones has guided Luton Town to EFL Championship safety this evening.

Following Luton’s 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers, the Hatters stayed up at the expense of Charlton Athletic, Hull City and potentially Wigan Athletic with a points deduction looming.

After returning to Kenilworth Road for a second spell this June, Jones’ Luton picked up 16 points out of a possible 27 since the Championship restarted.

Commenting on their survival, Nathan Jones said to LutonTownFC.co.uk: “Unbelievable! It’s a shame there are no fans here because I think it would be bouncing right now.

“The volume levels would be through the roof but so proud of the group, to get 16 points from a possible 27, nine games, is a phenomenal return considering where we were.

“I would have thought a handful of individuals would have thought we would do it, and this is as great an achievement as promotion really.

It’s over a shorter period of time as I mentioned in my press yesterday, but what a wonderful achievement, I’m so proud.”

During a 21-year playing career, Jones played left-back and in midfielder for Maesteg Park and Ton Pentre in the then Cymru Premier.

He also had a two-year spell with Merthyr Tydfil before playing in Spain for Badajoz and Numancia.
