Former Cardiff City full-back Cameron Coxe could be set for a stunning move to Manchester City, as the Premier League giants emerged as shock favourites to sign the Welsh youngster.

The 21 year-old failed to make a league appearance for the Bluebirds, despite breaking into the senior squad in 2017, after spending 12-years in their youth academy.

However, Coxe was involved in the 3-0 home defeat to Luton Town in the EFL Cup. The right-back also featured twice in the FA Cup, both coming against Carlisle United, as the Bluebirds won the replay 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller at Brunton Park.

Coxe was rated highly by the Cardiff City faithful, and some were astonished that Neil Harris allowed the talented right-back to leave the Welsh Capital.

Harris was speaking following the departure of Coxe back in February, after he was told he had no future in South Wales.

“It’s always a shame to let players go,” said Harris, speaking to WalesOnline.

“Someone like Cam, for example, at his age, you have to look at it and make joint decisions with players and agents.”

“You look at players at 21, 22 or 23 and they are still playing under-23s football, sometimes you just have to let them go and get on with their careers and say, ‘I hope you do well and have a career in league football.”

Now Manchester City could be ready to pounce after reportedly scouting the Merthyr-born full-back for some time now and Citizens manager Pep Guardiola is believed to be an admirer of the Welshman.

Cheltenham Town have also shown interest in Coxe in the past, but it looks as though Premier League giants Manchester City are in pole position to capture the youngster’s signature.

Coxe has also represented Wales at under-17, under-19, under-20 and under-21 level.
