Dunfermline Athletic are closing in on a move for Hamilton Academical goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams, according to reports.
The Wales goalkeeper, who spent the second half of last season’s campaign at Dunfermline after joining on loan in January, has been linked with a permanent move back to the Scottish Championship club.
Fon Williams had been a regular first choice for Hamilton during the first half of the season, featuring in 15 league games between the sticks prior to making the switch to the second tier.
He made six appearances for Dunfermline before the campaign was curtailed owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the 33-year-old could be set for a return to the East End Park outfit ahead of next season’s campaign, which has been given a provisional start date of 17 October.
Express journalist Scott Burns claims the Scottish championship side are closing in on a permanent deal for Fon Williams, which would see him link up with Stevie Crawford’s men again next term.
The Welshman, who was part of Chris Coleman’s 23-man Euro 2016 squad, made his solitary appearance for Wales during a 3-2 friendly defeat against Holland ahead of the tournament.
And, despite not featuring under Ryan Giggs since he was appointed as Wales boss in January 2018, he still harbours hopes of making a return to the international fold.
After signing for Hamilton last summer, he told AcciesTV: “To be back playing in the Premiership here at Hamilton, it gives me the opportunity to be in the shop window for Wales.
“I’m a very proud Welshman and to play for your country is a dream for anyone. To put the colours of your country on your back is all you want to do as a football player.”
Goalkeepers Wayne Hennessey, Danny Ward and Adam Davies have been regularly called upon by Giggs since he succeeded Coleman two years ago, although they have been used sparingly by their clubs this season.
However, it seems Fon Williams has fallen further down the pecking order after Newport County’s Tom King was added to Giggs’ squad for the final two Euro 2020 qualifiers after Ward pulled out due to personal reasons.
