Former Port Talbot defender Scott Barrow joins York City

Defender Scott Barrow has joined Vanarama National League North club York City.

He had been linked with a move to Hartlepool United but has instead joined The Minstermen.

Barrow had been keen to stay in the North of England after moving there in 2017.

“It’s a club I wanted to sign for and when I got that phone call it was a no brainer really,” said Barrow after making the move to the York Community Stadium.

“It was a big decision; I’ve been at Gateshead for three years and I was loyal – over the years I could have gone elsewhere – it didn’t go quite the way I planned for the coming season.

York are a massive club and I’m looking forward to the challenge, the one thing I am missing is a promotion and hopefully this year I can get that done.

Barrow began his senior career with Briton Ferry Athletic, before making over a century of appearances for Port Talbot Town.

He later played for Tamworth and Macclesfield Town before playing in the English Football League for Newport County.

In a season where he made 34 league appearances, scoring two goals, he was released.

He later joined English non-league outfit Merthyr Town before later joining Gateshead, where he played for the last three years.
