Wales international George Williams has joined League Two outfit Grimsby Town.

The 24-year-old makes the move to Lincolnshire after he was released by Forest Green Rovers.

Last season Williams was restricted to four appearances and one goal after suffering a leg break.

Williams was named in Wales’ EURO 2016 squad but didn’t make an appearance.

The Milton Keynes-born attacker has seven caps to his name with Wales but hasn’t made an appearance for the national side since March 2016.

Commenting on his move to Blundell Park, Williams said: “I got a phone call from the manager recently, he outlined the project that he’s got going on here and asked if I wanted to be part of it.

“It was an easy decision after talking to him to come up here, I have trained a couple of days with the boys and I am fully on board with the project we have here.”

He will link up with fellow Welshmen Elliot Hewitt and Harry Clifton.

Former Aberystwyth Town forward Alhagi Touray Sisay has also joined following the expiry of his contract.

Manager Ian Holloway, who has been busy in the transfer market this summer, commented on one of his latest signings in Williams.

“He’s a wonderful lad, fantastic ability, fresh as a daisy and he’s got a young family who he is moving up straight away, so it’s fantastic commitment from him and I am absolutely delighted.

“I hope our fans will enjoy the way he plays, he’s full of energy and very creative in that midfield area and I cannot wait to work with him”.
