Robert Page delighted for Brooks after injury troubles

Robert Page was left delighted after his side sealed an important victory in their fight for Nations League promotion thanks to a second-half strike from forward David Brooks.

Brooks found the back of the net in the 67th minute after his header fired past the advancing Darren Randolph.

After that, Kieffer Moore had a great chance to double Wales’ lead late on but he failed to capitalise on some sloppy Ireland defending after a neat through ball from substitute Tyler Roberts.

Reflecting on the result, Robert Page told the media post-match: “I’m absolutely delighted with the win. I’m really happy especially for David who’s had such a tough time with injuries.

“His goal was a real important goal for us, and I was with him in Ireland when he went over on his ankle and I saw how low he was after that so to see him back out there tonight and marking it with a match-winning goal was brilliant to see.

He continued: “We road our luck a number of times tonight and in football it doesn’t always go your way, so the lads deserve a lot of credit for that because I thought their work rate was excellent tonight.

“The boys have worked really hard for these clean sheets and that’s not just down to the back five, it’s the whole team and again they’ve put a great shift in.

“As a unit they are well organised, hardworking, and most of time hard to break down which is always a positive.

He finished: “We’ll take the clean sheet and the three points and now just look forward to what is going to be another tough game on Wednesday.
