Canton Liberal progressed to the next round of the Welsh Cup after defeating rivals Cardiff Corinthians 3-0 at Leckwith Stadium.
A quick goal from quick as Alexander ran out and collided with the winger to give the first-minute penalty away, to give liberal the lead.
Goals from Nathan Patterson and Richard Lane at the latter stages of the first half gave Canton Liberal a very demanding lead heading into the break.
the second goal by Patterson Strike from Patterson left the goalkeeper flat-footed. The third coming from a defensive mistake which landed to Lane to slot it home.
A dominated display in the first half for canton liberal with set-piece and poor defending for all of the Corinthians goals conceded.
Very even second half for both teams as both sides couldn’t find the clinical shot to get a goal in the second half of the game. Referee decisions were a deciding factor in the game.
Decisions such as the first half penalty where the keeper used both legs to collide with the Liberal winger and escaping a definite card if not a red card.
Cardiff Corinthians had rarely any chances but with soft fouls throughout the match, there was no real spell where they threatened the liberals’ goal.
Action straight from the start as Alexander brought down Esona in which Quick fired the ball to the left side of the goal.
On the 15th minute mark, Cardiff Corinthians had a penalty of their own when a Jones free-kick appeared to hit the arm of a Liberal player in the wall.
The referee brushed away the appeals from the canton players as Jones stepped as he fired his shot to the right side where Riella was there to prevent the equalizer.
A little spell of attacking opportunities for Corinthians with chances coming from the right flank by George Jones and Harry Burge with their crosses causing danger to the back posts.
A free-kick from Jones was saved well by Riella to prevent the goal for the midfielder.
A push to the floor by Alex Smith on a Canton Liberal player caused outrage on the touchline with a fight nearly escalating. No booking was given following the push.
A great goal from Patterson as his strike left Alexander stranded in his goal to give the hosts a two-goal lead.
A mishap from the corinthians defense gave lane the ball straight into the empty net to give Canton a 3-0 lead heading into the break.
The second half was a much more contested half with both teams having attacking opportunities but not contesting either keeper.
Free kick for both sides didn’t help with the flow of the contest with both sides struggling to find an attack that caused danger to any of the keepers.
