David Lyon makes return to Cymru South after joining Taffs Well

Taffs Well have signed four new players ahead of the start of the 2021/22 season.

David Lyon, following his exit from The New Saints, Jerome Maynard, Sam Pashen, and Scott Hillman, have all registered with the club in time for their league opener with Goytre United on Friday.

Lyon was one of a number of players who were not offered new terms at the Cymru Premier club and he has since returned to South Wales.

He was an unused substitute on three occasions for the Saints in the 2020/21 season.

The 19-year-old returns to the Cymru South after previously playing for Caerau Ely, where he was brought through their academy system.

Before joining the Park Hall club, he featured for both the youth and senior team of the Young Guns.

He caught the eye of the TNS hierachy by scoring five goals in 14 appearances after being recommended.

Unfortunately on his return to action, he was on the losing side as the Wellmen suffered a 2-0 defeat to Trefelin BGC in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Midfielder Sam Pashen, who played three times for Cardiff Met, also featured alongside Lyon in midfield in the defeat.

Pashen, 23, played mainly for the reserves of the Archers but has joined Craig Sampson’s side in search of senior football.

Defender Scott Hillman, who was part of the academy at Rhiw’r Ddar, was also an announced signing who played in the match.

Hillman, who had been club captain for Pontypridd Town, had left to move to Australia but has since returned to the shores of Wales.

Another experienced defender in Jerome Maynard meanwhile reunites with Sampson after the pair had previously worked at Cwrt-yr-Ala Road.

A core of their squad, from their last League Cup fixture against Cardiff City, have remained, including Riccardo Mackenzie, Corey Spencer, and Luke Davidson.

Club captain Marcus Jones has also returned after a stint in the non-league in England.

18-year-old goalkeeper Henri Phillips has been entrusted to start the campaign between the sticks.
