Cwmamman United appoint captain Ryan Thomas as their new boss

Cwmamman United have appointed their club captain Ryan Thomas as their new manager.

Thomas takes over from former manager Jody Thomas who left Glenhafod Park for personal reasons.

He will be supported by Llion Jones who will be the first team assistant manager and Dave Legrice who will be the first team coach.

He becomes one of the youngest managers in the Ardal Leagues system, taking over at just 26-years-old.

Thomas was a key player in the 2019/20 season, scoring eight goals in 28 appearances.

He has already carried his form into this campaign, scoring two goals in their Welsh Cup campaign.

Commenting on his appointment on Twitter, he said: “Thank you for putting your trust in me. Looking forward to the challenge of trying to get us back into the Cymru South.”

Announcing his appointment, the board said: “Ryan has strong playing experience, is progressing through the key coaching qualifications, and has been a first-team player for a number of years.

“All of us at Cwmamman United wish him and his management team the very best as we look ahead to our Ardal League campaign.”

He begins life in the dugout away at Treharris Athletic Western this afternoon.

His return has already brought back two former players on Kyle Ashford and Ross Morgan.

Morgan, who plays as a centre midfielder, joins from Carmarthenshire side Bwlch Rangers.

He made three appearances for them in the league before moving up to the Ardal Leagues.

The 28-year-old also had one appearance for Llanelli Town before the 2020/21 season was curtailed.

Morgan made 23 appearances for Cwmamman in the previous season but could not stop them from being relegated.

Winger Ashford has also joined the club, reuniting with Morgan and other players. He played for them during their days in the Welsh League Division One.
