Paul Fairclough last week named a star-studded England C squad that was more or less a Vanarama National League all-stars side for their match with Wales C later this month.
Fairclough takes his non-league Three Lions to Caernarfon to face Mark Jones at The Oval for the third installment after a 3-2 win at Barry in 2018 and a 2-2 draw at Salford City in 2019.
Wales have yet to announce their squad yet but it is expected to come in the next week or so with some new players set to come to the fold.
One thing is for sure is that when it comes to player valuations is that there will be a considerable difference between full-time professionals and those working second jobs, mainly in the Welsh camp.
In fact, the £50,000 fee exchanged for Declan McManus by The New Saints is the Cymru Premier’s biggest transfer fee, so there isn’t a lot of money that goes in or out of the division. McManus is of course Scottish, so will be ineligible for selection.
- England C squad named – includes three Wrexham players and former Watford goalkeeper
- Wales C’s potential team for their international with England
By referring to the popular football simulation game Football Manager, it allows us to get an understanding of the task at hand for Wales.
Factors are taken into account such as the duration of their contract with plenty of clubs only having short-term deals, but there are still players who could command a high fee
Referring to the website SortItOutSi, which compiles player values and statistics, we take a look at the valuations of the 16-men named in the England squad.
Out of all the players in the squad, Solihull Moors midfielder Joe Sbarra is the most valuable with a value of £228,000.
Sbarra, 23, played 17 times in the Championship for Burton Albion and played more than 70 times for the Bewers, so he’s somewhat a coup and one of many players in the squad that has Football League experience.
The second most valued player is Aaron Hayden, one of three Wrexham players who are included in the squad, he has a valuation of just under £200k.
The 25-year-old defender has mainly played in the non-league but for the past two seasons has played for Carlisle United in League Two. Hayden has played 30 games for Phil Parkinson’s side and has a three-year deal at the Racecourse Ground.
His teammate Paul Mullin is the third most valued player which is a surprise given his 32 goals for Cambridge United in League Two last year. The 29-year-old, worth £166k on the game, has 15 goals in 25 appearances this season.
