Mold Alexandra win FAW Amateur Trophy as hunt for treble continues

Mold Alexandra won the FAW Amateur Trophy after defeating Baglan Dragons 1-0 in the final at The Recreation Ground in Caersws.

Daniel Warren’s 43rd-minute goal was enough to secure a win for the Alex, who remain on the hunt for a domestic treble.

Manager Mike Cunningham joined in the celebrations and in a short celebration said: “A fantastic day yesterday for the club. Thank you to those who have travelled to support us it means a lot.”

Match-winner Warren followed up with another short message, this time saying: “What a group of lads. Some day. UP THE MOLD.”

Mold Alex saw off Greenfield, FC Queens Park, Llangollen Town, Pontyclun, and Rockspur Fords in the previous rounds and then avoided an upset by narrowly getting past the South Wales Alliance League leaders.

It is the first time that Mold Alex have won the trophy since its inception in 1897. The only other side from the town to win the trophy was Mold Red Stars who beat Wrockwardine Wood back in the 1890s.

They are the fourth winner to come from North Wales, with there last being a South Walian winner back in 2016.

Attention will now return to their league exploits where Mold are top of the Ardal North West on goal difference but hold four games in hand over Denbigh Town and two games over Porthmadog, who are two points below them.
