Representing your country in any sport is something very few people are able to achieve, but for Callum Parry, that dream is closer than ever before.
Llanrwst’s talisman is one of only two Ardal Northwest players, alongside Rob Dascalu of Llanuwchllyn to be called up to the Cymru North squad to face the Cymru South team in this year’s edition of the UEFA Regions Cup qualifiers. The winner after two legs have been played will represent Wales in the Regions Cup, set to be hosted in Northern Ireland this November.
COVID-19 ut a stop to last year’s competition with Dolny Śląsk of Poland lifting the trophy in the 2018/19 edition.
Parry plays his football with tier three side Llanrwst United who currently sit fourth in the Ardal Northwest division in its inaugral season. The Rwsters striker has been lethal in front of goal this campaign and believes this call up is a great way to cap off a solid season: ‘‘It’s a great feeling to be honest and when a chance like this comes along you have to take it and I can’t wait to get going.”
Having netted 27 times this league season, this is a very deserved call-up for the man from Trefriw, who will join the likes of Meilir Williams (Conwy Borough) and Jamie Hyne (Guilsfield) in the squad’s front line.
Parry who has had spells away from Llanrwst with Colwyn Bay and Holyhead Hotspur believes the Rwsters aren’t too far off their level.
He said: “I think Llanrwst could definitely compete in the Cymru North, especially with the players that we have added to the squad, we have a strong squad and I’m sure next season we will be up there.”
Having become comfortable pulling on the red of Llanrwst every week, Callum is relishing the opportunity to represent his country: ‘It would mean everything to me, things like this come once in a lifetime so to represent your country in a cup would mean the world.
Callum has had a successful career so far but donning the red shirt of Cymru will be high on his list of achievements.
’I don’t think I will ever top the moment of wearing that famous red shirt and it’s certainly something I’ll never forget.”
