As-it-happened: Cardiff City 9-0 Abergavenny Town – see how it unfolded

Cardiff City face off against Abergavenny Town under the Cardiff City Stadium lights on Wednesday night.

The game is set to be played in front of over 5,100 people, trebling the previous record crowd set by Swansea City on the opening day of the season.

And there’s no wonder the Bluebirds supporters are optimistic, as they are on a barn storming run that sees them top of the Adran Premier. Eight games into the season, they have won seven and drawn one, scoring 20 in the process and only conceding four, meaning they possess the most prolific attack and the meanest defence in the league. Their last outing was a 3-1 victory against cross-city rivals Cardiff Met. Rhianne Oakley scored two and there was one for Danielle Broadhurst, as City will be confident heading into this one.

It has been a torrid time, on the other hand, for Abergavenny on their return to the league. They sit bottom of the table, and without a point to their name, as they sit nine points behind Barry in seventh place. They also boast the leakiest defence in the league, as they concede on average at least three goals a game. Their last outing came last Wednesday, as they were defeated 3-1 at home against Swansea.

The previous meeting took place in the second matchday of the Adran Prem, with the Bluebirds running out victorious. Danielle Green scored two that day, along with one each for Broadhurst, Oakley and captain Siobhan Walsh. Cardiff will be hoping to put on a similar show on Wednesday, while Abergavenny will be hoping that they can ruin the party.
