Cardiff Wanderers take on Briton Ferry down in Llanrumney in the quarter-finals of the FAW Women’s Cup.
With this tie pitting two non-Adran Premier clubs together, both will be hoping to keep their magical cup runs going.
The Wanderers have enjoyed a good run in the cup so far. Their first two games in this competition were won by penalties: the first against Cwmbran Celtic and their second against Adran South side Caldicot Town. Their third-round tie proved to be a far more straightforward task, a 4-1 win over Pencoed Athletic. Jade Crofts scored two that day, along with one for Rachel Beare and an own goal scored by Pencoed. Having recently put in a good performance in the Adran Trophy against Aberystwyth Town, they’ll be hoping they can shock again in this competition.
Standing in front of them however are Briton Ferry, a side who are well and truly inform. Sitting top of the Adran South unbeaten, there is an air of confidence in this Ferry side. They’ve played two games in the FAW Cup so far and have scored a staggering 25 goals. They defeated Merthyr Town 16-0 and Llanelli Town 9-1. Mollie Jones is the second top scorer with six goals, and I’m sure the Ferry will be looking to continue their rich vein of form on Sunday.
These two sides have met once before this season, and that was in the group stages of the Adran Trophy. Ferry won 4-0 that day, with Jones scoring two, while there was a goal each for Lucy Powell and Meg Kearle. However, this is a cup quarter final, and as the Wanderers will tell you, anything can happen.
