England C have named a 25-man preliminary squad to face Cymru at Altrincham on Tuesday, March 21, which includes Wrexham striker Sam Dalby.
Paul Fairclough is to announce his squad on Saturday, March 11, once the next round of National League fixtures have concluded. All 24 clubs in English football’s fifth tier are represented so far, but the squad will be whittled down to 16-man, meaning nine players will miss out to seek revenge on Mark Jones’ side.
Cymru recorded a convincing 4-0 win over England C in front of more than 1,000 spectators at Caernarfon’s The Oval. Will Evans- who was contracted to Bala Town at the time – was influential with two goals and an assist, which earned him a move to the Football League with Newport County. Solihull Moors’ Joe Sbarra is the only player that remains from the last Three Lions squad.
Dalby, who plays for promotion-chasing Wrexham, is involved in the squad and could feature against Cymru. The 23-year-old has five goals in 30 matches for Phil Parkinson’s side this season. He is the only player from the Red Dragons that has been chosen after three of their players including Paul Mullin, withdrew last year.
Macaulay Langstaff – who is reportedly the subject of interest of Bristol City, Cardiff City, and Swansea City, is also included in the squad. The 26-year-old leads the scoring charts this season with 33 goals in 35 matches, averaging a goal every 89 minutes.
