Pontypridd United loan star Tom Davies is attracting transfer interest from several Football League clubs.
The 19-year-old had a solid loan spell in the Cymru Premier, and played nine times, getting four goals and two assists. It was his first move away from the Bluebirds, and he returned back to the Championship outfit with Pontypridd bosses thankful for his role.
According to reports, most specifically Football Insider, the Bluebirds are ready to ‘green-light’ a loan move for him, and there are plenty of suitors. League One, League Two and National League clubs are all ‘interested in his capture’ and now former Barry Town United manager Gavin Chesterfield will be tasked with choosing his next destination.
“The next step for him is to probably go out on loan again next year,” said the Bluebirds’ Under-21’s boss Darren Purse to WalesOnline when discussing Davies’ prospects.
“Don’t take this the wrong way, but we need to use the Welsh Prem as a stepping stone. Teams like National League clubs, maybe National League North and South clubs, or even League Two clubs, look at a first loan and they don’t like taking someone on a first loan because they are not proven.
He added: “What we have done with Tom Davies at Ponty, letting him play as many games as he did at Ponty, I watched probably half a dozen of them and he was probably the best player on the pitch in every one of them. Which he should be.
“Now he has done that, can we go and get him a really good loan for next year? Where he can start pre-season or halfway through pre-season, go into a club, and pit his wits at a better level. Clubs will be more open to taking him on loan because he has now had that first experience of playing men’s football and has done really well.”
Davies is under contract at the Cardiff City Stadium until the summer of 2024 after signing his first professional deal in October 2022. He has made appearances for the Under-18 and Under-23’s side and has two senior appearances under his belt.
He is a three-time Wales Under-19 international and played alongside Eddie Beach, Jadan Raymond, and Luke Harris, who have since gone on to be included at Under-21 and senior level.
