Cymru North merry-go-round in full swing as two clubs part ways with managers

Buckley Town manager Jason Aldcroft looks on with a football underneath his feet.

Two Cymru North clubs have parted ways with their managers this week.

The 2023/24 league campaign is on pause for Welsh Cup weekend, and two clubs have decided now is the right time to search for new bosses to preserve their league status.

It is the third managerial departure in as many weeks after Prestatyn Town sacked Chris Jones, and replaced him with Karl Clair.

Buckley Town and their boss Jason Aldcroft decided to go their separate ways, and his departure from The Globe was announced on Tuesday.

Aldcroft had only been appointed in June after succeeding Dan Moore. The A-Licence coach leaves Buckley in 13th, three points above the relegation zone.

He won two of the nine league games he oversaw and also beat Mold Alexandra and Denbigh Town in the Nathaniel MG Cup. His side was eliminated from the Welsh Blood Service League Cup, and the NEWFA Senior Challenge Cup, however.

A statement posted on various platforms read: “To confirm: 1st Team Manager, Jason Aldcroft, has today left BTFC. Jason is a fantastic coach, and we thank him for his efforts during what has been a challenging period.

“We wish him well for the future. The process of appointing a new Manager will begin immediately.”

Buckley have a Welsh Cup clash with Ardal Leagues outfit Bow Street on Saturday, October 14, in what will be the first game of the post-Aldcroft era.

Elsewhere in the Cymru North, Llanidloes Town are another side who have gone their separate ways and have said goodbye to Lawrence Wilson.

A statement from the Daffs posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, said: “Tonight the club took the difficult decision to part company with first team manager Lawrence Wilson.

“The club want to thank Lawrence for his commitment and hard work in what was difficult circumstances when he took charge and wish him all the best for the future.”

Wilson departed his post as Llanfair United manager in February and took the reigns at Victoria Avenue in June. The Daffs only won their first league game on September 30 after beating fellow strugglers Llandudno.

The UEFA B-Licence coach got one win, two draws, and five defeats in the eight league games he oversaw, and also guided the club to a Welsh Cup first-round win over Builth Wells, and progressed in the Welsh Blood Service League Cup after beating Caersws.

Llanidloes face fellow Cymru North side Gresford Athletic in the second round of the Welsh Cup on Friday, October 13.
