Former Bristol City and Fulham starlet joins new club in flurry of transfer activity

Chris Ham celebrates scoring a goal for Blaenavon Blues in the Ardal South East League.

Former Bristol City and Fulham centre-back Aron Davies’ is one of the highest-profile transfers this month in the Ardal South East.

The 26-year-old joined Goytre on October 10 from Ardal South West outfit Cardiff Corinthians. Davies was a big part of Corries’ South Wales Alliance League success last term.

He has made a big impact having got a goal and an assist against Chepstow Town and then a hat-trick in the FAW Trophy against Margam Youth Centre.

Before leaving the Corries, Davies got two goals and two assists in the league, as well as four assists and one goal in one Ardal South League Cup match. He got 28 goals and 13 assists in 25 league games last year for the Corries as they won the fourth division title.

Goytre’s move to sign Davies comes before prolific forward Chris Ham decided to head to league rivals Blaenavon Blues. The 31-year-old scored six and got an assist on his debut for his new club last week against Hay St Mary’s.

He scored an impressive 85 goals in 84 games since the start of the 2021/22 season and has been the Golden Boot winner for the last two seasons.

Another departure from Plough Road was Nathan Gulley’s move to Aberbargoed Buds this week. He was the second defender to leave after Harry Russell returned to Gwent Premier Division outfit Harry Russell.

Elsewhere in the South East, Hay St Mary’s have made a double swoop for Builth Wells’ front-line by Greg Preece and also recruiting Ollie Woods. Preece was a huge part of the 2018/19 promotion-winning squad and has had spells with Abergavenny Town and Westfields. He notched up an impressive 36 goals and five assists in the Mid Wales League East back in 2021/22.

25-year-old Woods meanwhile got an assist in the 12-1 defeat to Blaenavon. He scored five goals in 22 league games last season for Builth but had been limited to reserve appearances this term.

Elsewhere, Aberbargoed Buds signed Chris Colvin from South West outfit Penydarren. He’s already made a big impact by scoring five goals in his first three games after 13-years of service at the Bont Playing Fields.
