Wales player ratings vs Iceland: Four 5/10s but one 9/10 as Cymru squander two-goal lead

Iceland players celebrate scoring against Wales in the UEFA Nations League

In a disappointing result, Wales’ two-goal half-time lead was pegged back by Iceland as they salvaged a draw in their Nations League fixture.

Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson struck before the break to give Craig Bellamy’s men a deserved advantage before the hosts struck through Logi Tómasson and an own goal from Danny Ward to salvage a draw.

The result means that they sit second in the Nations League group with five points, two behind Türkiye with both sides having played three fixtures.

Here is a look at the Wales player ratings from the Reykjavík clash.

Wales player ratings vs Iceland

Danny Ward – 5

After a relatively quiet first half Ward was called into action multiple times in the second making some big saves. He’ll be disappointed to ship two goals including one unfortunate own goal.

Connor Roberts – 5

It was a difficult second half for the Burnley man as he struggled up against Logi Tómasson and was replaced shortly after conceding the second.

Joe Rodon – 6

It’s hard to remember a time that Rodon has lost a header in a Wales shirt. He will be disappointed to drop the two goal lead but he was solid overall in the performance.

Ben Davies – 6

Much like his centre half partner he will be disappointed that he couldn’t help his side keep their two goal advantage. There wasn’t much he could do about either goal and was solid overall.

Neco Williams – 9

Neco was at his creative in the first half as he produced two defence splitting passes that lead to both of the Wales goals.

Jordan James – 6

A hard working performance from the 20-year old as he continues to pick up international experience. He received a yellow card for a rash challenge that will see him miss the Montenegro fixture through suspension.

Ollie Cooper – 7

He slotted into midfield in the absence of the injured Ethan Ampadu and done a solid job. He worked hard on both sides of the ball helping Wales to regain possession on multiple occasions.

Harry Wilson – 7

Another brilliant finish from Wilson on his left foot as he made it two in two in a Wales shirt. He caused real issues in the first half with his runs from deep beyond the Iceland defence.

Brennan Johnson – 7

Johnson continued his fine form in front of goal as he made it seven in seven. You can see he’s playing with real confidence at the moment and i’ts great to see it shine through in a Wales shirt. He will miss Monday’s fixture through suspension.

Sorba Thomas – 5

It was a quiet night from Sorba as he failed to offer much going forward. He worked hard defensively being replaced late into the second half.

Kieffer Moore – 7

Moore had a quiet night in front of goal but done really well with his hold up play and did his job negating the Iceland threat from set pieces.

Wes Burns – 5

Burns replaced Johnson at the break as Bellamy looked to utilise his pace and give him minutes ahead of a possible start on Monday. He didn’t offer much in his spell on the field as Wales struggled in the second half.

Ben Cabango – N/A

Cabango was a second half substitute that helped Wales over the line when they were under pressure.

Liam Cullen – N/A

Cullen was a second half substitute that helped Wales over the line when they were under pressure.
